Before you know it's a Healthy eating diet with restricted calories looming for January. Not a way I want to start the year. So for me it is a bit of discipline and thought about what and how much I am putting in my mouth. Plus keeping my activity levels high by playing with the Grandchildren and running round looking after everybody. As it is so much easier to put weight on than take it off.
In the usual run of things I am not a one for nibbling in-between meals. But come the Festive Season with Parties and Events to attend it is so easy to over indulge and just treat yourself this once then treat yourself some more. I'll have to try that morsel as it looks so nice. Plus don't get me started on the drinks, alcoholic or soft drinks just as bad for piling on the pounds.

In our household Friday is generally the food shopping day. Not set in stone, but it just seems to fit in with our life style. I always go out with a shopping list, but also I keep an eye out for deals that will save some money. Started making a weekly menu many years ago, while working as a nurse with shifts. Have continued the practise as it helps with just buying what you need and food wastage is extremely rare in our home. I write the menus on the kitchen calendar which also has all the activities and social dates on, so it can be viewed by the family and be looked back over when looking for inspiration for meals to make. The other tool I have that keeps the kitchen running smoothly is a pad to write down things that you have used from the store cupboard and need replacing. i.e. coffee. We always have food in the freezer and pantry to rustle up some food for unexpected guests and events that crop up to disrupt the menu. Don't worry, be happy and carry on cooking. Spending time with friends, chatting, having a laugh and putting the world to rights over a lovely meal is a great way to spend the day. Lifts the spirits on a cold and showery day. As did the double rainbow, we saw on the drive to the restaurant. ttp://www.thedukeofwellingtoninn.co.uk/ Views across the Tyne Valley are a treat as well as the food. A true friend is someone who sticks by you when you are down and celebrates with you when you are up. It's someone you trust. It is someone who understands you, knows the real you and appreciates the person you are. Close friendship's are rare and should be cherished. I do. I need to work on my camera skills, composition and lighting woefully inadequate. |
